Ruby is a gem added by RedPower 2, like Green Sapphire and Sapphire. They can be found semi-rarely underground from levels 0 to 48 when mining Ruby Ore, and are affected by the Fortune enchantment. Like other gems, they can be used to construct the basic tools, including Axes, Pickaxes, Shovels, Swords, Handsaws, and Sickles. They can also be crafted into a Ruby Block. The tools made by Rubies are as fast as diamond tools but have a lower durability of only 501 uses, and cannot mine Obsidian.
Rubies can be ground down into Ruby Dust, a primary source of Chrome. They can also substitute for Diamonds in the creation of Energy Crystals and are one of the necessary ingredients for a Mining Laser (with GregTech installed). Due to these alternate uses, Rubies are not recommended for use in crafting tools. Green Sapphires have identical properties and far fewer crafting recipes that they can be used in.
Rubies can occasionally be found as loot in Dungeon chests.
