The Portable Scanner (Tricorder) is a GregTech tool that allows for a player to instantly find out more information about the block in the direction the Scanner is being held in. When a player right-clicks any block while holding it, information will appear in the text box, displaying at bare minimum the block's name, its item ID number, any relevant metadata number, its hardness level, and its blast resistance.
When used on an IndustrialCraft 2 compatible machine, further information may be displayed, such as its safe input and output voltages, whether it can be removed via a wrench, its current demanded energy, its contained energy, and its E-Net status. The portable scanner may also be used on IC2 crop blocks instead of a Cropnalyzer. The crops then become identifiable with the Cropnalyzer as if they were planted from analyzed seeds. When used with GregTech Machines with upgrades installed, any information about what those upgrades are and their quantity installed will also be displayed.
The Portable Scanner (Tricorder) is an IndustrialCraft 2 compatible rechargeable tool, holding up to 100,000 EU at a time.
The Portable Scanner performs the same function as the Debug Scanner, except that the Debug Scanner also displays the metadata value of a GregTech machine and whether the machine is accessible to the player using the scanner. The scanner also does not require EU and can only be used by players in Creative Mode.
