Great Stories About People Who Almost Succeeded

Did you hear about the great, superbly brave person who almost sailed around the world before anyone else did? Or, did you hear about the stunningly interesting tale of that other guy who almost succeeded in writing a world-changing book about lemmings? Of course not – because no one really focuses on people who almost did something amazing. In the real world, it always seems to boil down to either being successful at doing something, or being forgotten to history.

Many people feel hopeless when they look at the lofty goals that they set for themselves, simply because they don’t even know where to start. Some are terrified of starting simply because they are afraid of failure, and the consequences that come with it. What may be hard for some to remember is that success comes after you initially try to do something. This means that in order to succeed at anything, you will have to put yourself at risk of failure.

Of course, being put at risk of failure is not such a bad thing. Some of the most famous people in history had notable failures. Scientist Albert Einstein failed out of school. Oprah Winfrey was fired from her news reporting position because of her weight. Jack London, famous author of Call of the Wild had 600 rejection letters from publishers before one publisher picked it up. Even Dallas Cowboys legend Tom Landry has a record for having one of the worst seasons in football history. All of these famous figures had to fail before they were able to succeed and make history.

So before you give up on your dreams, take a deep breath and realize that failing isn’t necessarily that bad a thing. If people like Einstein and Oprah were okay with risking a little failure, shouldn’t you be?
