Sticky Resin is a vitally important natural resource in Template:IC2 that is used to make almost every item the mod adds. Why do so many machines need it? Because it is the easiest way to get Rubber! Without Rubber, many electric components would go uninsulated. While that is a great recipe for making an explosion, it's not so great for making high tech machinery. Sticky Resin has other uses as well. It can be used as a substitute for a Slimeball when making Sticky Pistons, and also can be used as a type of pitch to substitute for coal or charcoal when making torches. It can also be placed directly on the ground to create a sheet of Sticky Resin which reduces or prevents fall damage.

Ways to obtain Sticky Resin:

Automation

By using a Arboretum to grow the rubber tree saplings and an Automatic Treetap you can get the sticky resin. However, if you don't have a Logger, production will stop until the trees are chopped down.

Recipes

Sticky Resin can be obtained through a variety of machines In addition to the normal ways (tapping and cutting down). For the recipes that require Rubber Wood, any of IC2 Rubber Wood, RP2 Rubberwood, and AE Rubber Wood will work in these recipes.

Template:Grid/Centrifuge Note: Hover the mouse over an item to show its chance.

Place Rubber Wood in a Sawmill to obtain 4 Jungle Wood planks and a 33% chance of receiving Sticky Resin from the secondary output slot. This operation requires 120 MJ.

Place Rubber Wood in an Industrial Sawmall with a Water Bucket or Water Cell to obtain Sticky Resin, 16 Sawdust, and the empty Bucket/Cell. This operation requires 6400 EU, 10 seconds, and MaxEnergy of 32 EU/t.

Uses in Processing

Sticky Resin can be converted into Rubber by either smelting it in any type of Furnace, or processing it in an Extractor. Extracting Sticky Resin provides 3 units of Rubber, while smelting it only provides 1. The most efficient processing of Resin is in an Industrial Centrifuge, which produces 14 Rubber per 4 Resin. You can also put Rubber Wood in the Extractor to give you 1 Rubber.

Sheet

Placing sticky resin directly on the ground creates a sheet of sticky resin, which reduces fall damage when you land on it, similar to Rubber Boots. The sheet slows movement in general, similar to Soul Sand, and walking on it or digging it makes sounds like Sand and Soul Sand.

Digging up a Resin Sheet or the block under the sheet destroys the sheet and has an 80% chance to drop the resin again. There is no tool to speed up digging a Resin Sheet, although efficiency on any tool will speed it up a little. You may consider digging up the blocks under it instead with their designated tool to speed up the process.
