The Counter is one of numerous blocks added by RedPower 2 to simplify Redstone circuitry.
If Redstone current is applied to the input side with the minus sign, the counter will count down by its set decrement, and if Redstone current is applied to the input side with the plus sign, the counter will count up by its set increment. The Counter's increment and decrement can be set by right-clicking on it and viewing its GUI. The increment and decrement can also have different values.
The counter also has a "Maximum Count" value, which determines how its outputs will function. If the Counter reaches its Maximum Count in either positive or negative numbers, the respective output face will emit a Redstone signal; for instance, if a Counter is keeping track of the amount of items entering a Chest, it could output a Redstone signal upon the chest becoming full, triggering a mechanism which changes the flow of items.
